Plantar Fasciitis Print E-mail

Did you know... About 90 percent of people suffering from plantar fasciitis recover with conservative treatments in just a few months.

Causes

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition causing heel pain, and sometimes heel spurs. The plantar fascia acts like a shock-absorbing bowstring, supporting the arch in your foot. However, as tension on that bowstring increases, it can create small tears in the fascia. Repetitive stretching and tearing can cause the fascia to become irritated or inflamed.

Symptoms

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:

  • Gradual pain
  • Pain that worsens with the first few steps after awakening
  • Sharp pain in the heel of the foot

Treatments

Plantar Fasciitis can be treated with simple, non-surgical methods, including rest, ice, weight loss, stretching exercises, and orthotic shoe inserts.
